Welcome to Wykeham House Girls' School

‘Excellent teaching observed was characterised by carefully crafted lessons that encouraged the pupils to behave well, with open-ended questioning and the opportunity for pupils to work independently. Exciting and imaginative classroom displays enhance the learning environment. The support provided for pupils with SEND is excellent. Able, gifted and talented pupils are challenged in class with open-ended questions and additional tasks to extend their learning.’

ISI report October 2013

At Wykeham House we are committed to achieving academic success for each of our girls, whatever their ability and they regularly exceed the expected. Throughout the School our classes are small and this ensures that everyone is well known to the staff. With many of our girls staying with us throughout their education from Nursery to GCSE, we can offer continuity of curriculum planning that is so often lost when children move schools at crucial points in their education.

Academic work is important, but our idea of education goes beyond the classroom and our pastoral care system helps us to treat all our girls as individuals. Our School has a real family atmosphere, which engenders happiness; and, as we know, a happy child makes good progress.

Creativity is also very important to us. We aim to produce confident, self-disciplined and motivated girls who are given the opportunity to participate and develop their skills in music, art, textiles, drama, sport and outdoor pursuits. Skiing trips, field activities and foreign visits are all regular features in the School calendar. We place much value on such experiences, which help to foster the important qualities of courtesy, consideration and respect for others.

You will find Wykeham House to be a happy School where friendships once made will last a lifetime and where learning is a stimulating experience. We believe that education is a partnership between home and School in which the values and ambitions of each reinforce the other.
